Our logs show that a significant number of users are logging in each time they
start a visit to a private page, rather than using "Rembember Me". This creates
a barrier to accessing private pages. We believe that a prompt to use Remember
Me, would reduce this barrier.
Here's how it could work.
The Log In page will continue to have a checkbox to say "Remember Me".
Each time a user logs in without using Remember Me, the system will display a
radio control with the following three options.
Keep me logged in.
Ask me next time.
Don't ask me again.
The "Don't ask me again" setting could be on the user's profile, or in a
cookie.
While we are thinking about this, it may be sensible to review the wording
used.
Alternatives to "Remember Me" that are in common use include "Keep me logged
in" and "Keep me signed in".
Furthermore, some sites, including Google, now use "Sign In" and "Sign Out" as
well as "Sign Up" (which we now use).
